Did you know?
Did you know that CBTRUS compiles the largest aggregation of data and is the most comprehensive resource for trends analyses on the incidence of all primary brain tumors, malignant and nonmalignant, in the United States?

We look forward to the future and to analyzing data collected under a Uniform Data Standard policy guided by a site and histology definition for these devastating tumors.

Visiting Clinicians
We are pleased to have had Dr. P.G. Balagopal from the Medical College in Trivandrum, India, training with us for a few weeks in the spring of 2006. Dr. Balagopal is a neurosurgeon who is in charge of starting a population-based brain tumor registry in his country. In August 2005, we had a similar training experience with a neurosurgeon from the University Hospital, Montpellier, France— Dr. Luc Bauchet— who is establishing a brain tumor registry in his country.

Brain Tumor Epidemiology Consortium (BTEC)
The Brain Tumor Epidemiology Consortium (BTEC) had its sixth meeting on September 26-27 in Chicago, Illinois. One of the aims of the Fall 2005 meeting was to bring together neuropathologists, epidemiologists, and related multidisciplinary scientists with a common interest in brain tumor research to discuss diagnostic classification issues as they relate to retrospective and prospective multi-institutional studies.

Since its initial meeting at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), BTEC has moved forward its goal to establish multi-centered collaborations that will lead to a better understanding of the causes and risk factors involved in the development of pediatric and adult brain tumors. It is a self-directed group and was formed after an initial meeting at NCI in February 2003. The CBTRUS provides BTEC with business support, including meetings arrangements, and has helped secure funding from the National Brain Tumor Foundation, the American Brain Tumor Association, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation of the United States, The Preuss Foundation, and NeoPharm, Inc. for conferences and travel awards.
